Waxing – All the Various Types of Wax In-Use

Today, various types of wax are being used in the waxing genre and professionals have developed different waxing techniques as well. What we need to do is to get awareness of those types and techniques in order to decide the best option for us.

Soft Wax

While using soft wax, professionals apply the wax to your body part, with a wooden spatula in a thin coating and then pull off with a strip of muslin or paper. It can be a little painful whilst the professional remove the strip and can cause irritation on sensitive skin. However, it removes fine hairs and provides with a soft, smooth skin.

Hard Wax

While using hard wax, firstly, it is heated up in a wax heater, after that it is applied onto the skin with a spatula in a thicker layer than soft wax. The expert then wait for it to get hard and dry, then it’s ripped off with the hands in the opposite direction of hair growth.

It is rather used on sensitive areas, such as face or bikini line. It is observed that hard wax techniques are lesser painful for clients as the wax only binds to hair and not the skin. It is also considered as a comparatively clearer process as it does not leave any sticky remains.

Fruit Wax

Fruit wax is a newer type of wax that works in the same way as hard wax, however, it does have another added benefit of being rich in antioxidants, that makes it dermatologically beneficial. However, it is a little expensive than most wax treatments.

Chocolate Wax

As the name suggests, Chocolate wax comes in with many skin benefits due to the vitamins it contains. Most clients with sensitive skin often go for this type as it eliminates waxing irritation mostly, and it helps in moisturizing your skin.

Importance of Hygiene

Here are some of the facts that are to be taken care of while performing or getting a wax treatment, in order to make it a hygienic process:

  • During a wax, the experts are called to sanitize their hands or wear gloves in order to avoid direct contact and spread of germs, in any way.
  • Before taking a client in for wax, it should be make sure that the bed has been sprayed and sanitized with alcohol and other sanitization products.
  • The rule of ‘don’t double dip’ – that is to ensure that the expert never dip the same spatula into the wax twice because it can cause infection through transfer of germs from body to container. Therefore, every time you use a spatula, it needs to be thrown away to avoid contamination.

Waxing Preparation

Waxing techniques can only be effective if your preparation was sturdy and fine before beginning the process. It is important for client to get consultation before starting any wax. During the session, client should clear the questions about whether the wax can cause discomfort or irritation on their sensitive skin or if they take any medication that could add into this. Often the clients with sensitive skin go for chocolate or fruit wax, that eliminates the experience of irritation, reduces pain and enhances client’s comfort level.

For getting a good waxing procedure, the client’s hair length should be between 1 to 4 cm, that is two to three weeks of hair growth. If it is too short then the wax will not stick right and if it is too long, then wax can prove to be a little patchy.

Before beginning the process, it is good to cleanse the skin with warn water or a cleanser in order to get rid of the slim pores of any dirt or extra oils, and this can enhance the wax hair removal effect. Once the skin area is cleaned and dried, a pre-wax oil is applied to moisturize and protect the skin. An oil is also applied after waxing is done, in order to soothe your skin and reduce redness or irritation.
