Understanding of the waxing techniques are essential in order to see what can contribute in your comfort level and decide accordingly. The techniques mostly varies according to the type of wax being used. Let us take a look at it.
The method of hot waxing
The most common practice since the beginning of time; has been, hot waxing, in which the wax is heated to a certain temperature until its viscosity is turned into a gel-like liquid. Check the temperature before applying it to the desired part of skin. Once the application is done, paper stores are pressed onto the wax layer and forcibly pulled for removing the wax, along with the hair.
This method can help in removing most of the hair and tan from one’s skin, revealing a clean and fresh looking skin. However, sometimes, it can lead to rashes and irritation on sensitive skin if the temperature is not checked properly or if the strip removal is uneven.
The method of cold waxing
This process involves waxing through waxing strips using a semi-solid wax, onto the skin. These strips are applied directly across the skin and pulled hard in order to remove hair. It is relatively a quicker way of hair removal.
Cold waxing is considered as a much cleaner hair removal process as compared to hot waxing. These strips ate easier to use and can be found on various sizes and shapes, as per your requirement. And they are considered to be a less painful method, not as hot waxing procedure. While it is a less painful process, however, it does not give even near-perfect results as such of hot waxing. Also, irregular strip pulling can lead to broken hair follicles and irritation.
The method of soft waxing
It is considered to be one of the most-used wax technique, as it is used for larger areas such as legs, arms, underarms, and the back. In this process, the wax is spread all over the desired are of your body and later removed with a muslin cloth or paper.
It is known to provide a fabulous job or hair removal, as wells as removing skin tan to most extent. That makes its use more appreciable.
Strip-less waxing
In this process, the strip less wax is applied to the desired are of the skin and it is allowed to cool for a while. When the wax cools down and sets to the skin, the cool wax is then pulled off, resulting in the removal of hair along with it. It is made sure that the wax is removed in the opposite direction of the hair growth. This method is often used on delicate skin areas such as gave, bikini line and neck area etc.
This provides a clean and polished finish as it slows down the hair growth. Therefore, it is a preferred method for dense hair growth. However, the results may differ, which mostly depends on the wax temperature.
Dermatologist’s Tips
In order to achieve best results, dermatologists recommend the following tips:
- Before getting a waxing treatment, the client needs to ensure optimal hair length because shorter or longer than 1-4 cm can give less satisfying effects.
- Avoid use of retinoid creams before waxing in order to eliminate risks of skin irritation and discomfort.
- Gently wash the area that is about to get waxed, in order to remove dirt and dead skin cells. Dry it thoroughly and for wax to adhere properly.
- In order to reduce discomfort, as waxing can be a painful process for some people, they may have to take some counter-pain medication, such as ibuprofen, and applying cold packs to numb the skin before waxing.
- After waxing, it is effective to soothe your irritated skin through cold packs and application of moisturized that does not clog the pores of the skin, therefore, look for moisturizers that are oil-free or non-comedogenic.
