Smoothening Of Rough Hair And Frizz – Keratin Treatment

If you see the depletion of keratin in your hair over time then it’ll show itself through split ends, breaking, thinning, dull color, and frizziness. It’s caused by practically everything you do to tame your hair: by use of a curling iron or hot hair rollers, blow drying, hair coloring, relaxing, perming, straightening, using hair spray or gel – the list goes on and on. If you use any of these styling methods, you should give some serious thought to treating your hair to repair the damage or even as a precaution to protect it from the future damage you may cause.

Damage Control

Although, no matter how good you are to your hair or how healthy it is, as you age, the amount of keratin in your hair will inevitably reduce. This is just yet another fact of aging.

If you’ve noticed damage to your hair, then a keratin treatment may go a long way in bringing life back to your hair.

What Is A Keratin Treatment

An in-salon smoothing treatment that costs a few coins, contains some chemicals and is wildly popular, called as keratin treatment. A keratin treatment is a smoothing process in which the hair cuticle is sealed with a coating of protein that is aimed to reduce its frizziness and makes it softer and shinier. It makes the hair smooth and more manageable.

KERATIN – A Fibrous Protein

In our hair, there exists a naturally occurring fibrous protein that is supposed to act as a shield against moist and humid which can become the cause of frizz and rough ends. With time, when our hairs are kept exposed to sun, environmental effects, various hair styling techniques and chemical processes, pores are developed.

Most frizz, [damage] and tangled hair is due to overly porous hair and keratin works well with the porosity of that sort of hair. Keratin is filled between the gaps where it has been depleted earlier, so humidity is combated and hair is left with a healthier appearance.

Difference Between Straightening And Keratin Treatment

Unlike straightening treatments (in which protein bonds in the hair are broken in order to straighten them), Keratin Complex treatments won’t break the bonds of your hair—instead, reducing frizz and restoring health to provide the straightening, smoothing effect without permanently changing the structure. This allows versatility to style wavy or straight as desired.

Duration Of This Process

The keratin treatment process can take one to three hours, which entirely depends on the hair structure, length and thickness. Before beginning the treatment, we must shampoo the hair in order to strip off oil or any other chemical resins present in the hair. Once the hair is shampooed, hair are divided into four sections, and by taking 1/2-inch to 1-inch subsections, Keratin product is applied from root to ends while combing through to ensure even distribution. After that, wet hair are bound to be dried by using a to rough dry until they’re 75% dry, and once again, we need to section the hair and start to blow dry the hair smooth with a boar bristle round brush.

Once the hair is completely dry, sectioning is done yet again and we need to flat iron the remaining sections with 3-8 passes of the flat iron, depending on how smooth and straight we want our hair to be.

Lasting Effect of Keratin Treatment

A keratin treatment like this can last for like three to six months but it all depends on how well you take care of your hair after the treatment, especially how often do you use shampoo on your hair, and it will only last longer if you’re using sulfate-free shampoo.
