Microblading – Associated Processes and Factors

Microblading is a type of eyebrow architecture. It is all about enhancing and structuring the best shape for one’s face – a completely unique approach for each client.

The process is very precise thanks to the tool that is being used which is effectively like a pen with the nib being a sloped blade with 10-12 little needles at last – needles that don’t divulge the skin surface instead just scratch the surface, more like a paper cut.

The needle are finely implanted light-weight strokes with a grade ointment on the upper layer for the skin, hence construing fine, practical and natural hair strokes.

Difference between microblading and Brows Tattooed

Microblading, unlike brow tattoos, is not in the deep layer of skin, instead on the surface alone. This is neither permanent, nor the color fades within 1-2 years.

The hair virgule is much more natural and delicate than any tattoo, for instance as a handheld blade is used – there is no electrical equipment that permeates deep cuts in this technique. There is therefore more of a scratching sound, than a buzz of a tattoo gun which pierces the skin deeply.

Procedure

  1. I shape the brow area by threading the hairs, cleaning up the area and preparing it for the treatment.
  2. Numbing – this takes 40 mins using a topical ointment.
  3. 10 minutes before the numbing cream has got to a stage of working, I will use my tools to begin measuring the area around the brows, taking into account face shape, symmetry, facial features etc.
  4. Then I begin the needling process – gently implanting the pigment via featherweight strokes. Each slash is an exterior line in the skin where the color pigment sinks in and settles successively. If there is any discomfort at this stage then another quick layer of numbing cream can be added to the area that will become effective after 5-7 minutes.
  5. Addition of a last layer of pigment that usually stays on for 10 minutes, clean the area and there you go – beautiful brows!

How Long Does Microblading Last?

Microblading may last anything between 1-2 years, but the longevity of the pigment will depend on the type of your skin.

People with slightly more skin oil will tend to last around the a year mark before requiring a touch up, but those with normal skin can last up to 18 months or so.

Your brows will eventually fade away if you don’t keep up with top-ups every 18 months. Although, there is no scaring or discoloration with the pigments used, so you wouldn’t know even if you leave them to fade out.

Does It Hurt?

It does not really hurt, in a sense; it is more of a sensation. The process itself is not dreadful thanks to the numbing ointment that is generally used. It’s sometimes the sound of the blade which people find worse – a small scratching sound.

The whole process is very quick – it’s actually the numbing, which takes most of the time (50 mins), you aren’t under the needle for the whole 2 hours.
