Balayage – Procedural and Maintenance Information

It is a French word that means ‘to sweep.’ In this procedure, the dye is swept or painted onto divisions of your hair in a freehand style. Usually, the dye is suitable from the mid shafts to the lateral parts of the hair. Another key feature of a balayage highlights is the method in which it’s done in swirls around the head. First, the dye is applied to the end section (nearer the nape of neck) of one’s head. Then, the middle part of your head is colored and then the top most area of hair is dyed right at the end.

It ends up looking like thick highlights, which are simply a few shades lighter than your base color. Since the highlights are not very concentrated and the bottom areas of hair are left relatively darker, balayage add tons of volume and dimension to the hair.

Procedure

The process differs depending on the stretch of the hair and the target result. One can expect to have each lock colored with a brush. Some beauticians prefer to separate their sections with cotton or wool, while others rags the hair in sections first then freehand color the ends.

I find that all my balayage clients are going for varied looks and need to maintain it at different rates. You will need to have at least 2 appointments prior to really build up the color. These appointments are to be spaced almost 5-6 weeks apart. From there you could go up to 3-4 months without having more balayage. On would just need to come in for a toner or a treatment to lighten up the color in between those given appointments.

Maintenance

Frequent Appointments

No, one isn’t directed to go to a salon every week for a new treatment. Performing a quarterly moisturizing treatment will safeguard your color to stays gleaming and glimmering. One can use natural oil; though it is recommend to use almond oil to get desired results. The more you wait, the more deeply moisturized the hair will become.

Don’t Rinse Them Routinely

It mainly depends on your hair type and your scalp kind. If your skin gets greasy very quickly and find that one needs to wash routinely, then you should probably go for it. However, if you can get away with it, rinsing only twice a week will be enough and could help prevent damage. When you wash your hair, basically you are shedding it of its natural7 oils and reducing the balayage color. Try limit your washes to max 3 times a week and even use a dry shampoo in between those washes if need be. It will greatly extend the extent of color.

Nourish Your Color

Another reason to why people love balayage is that it grows out so certainly and doesn’t leave a definitive trace line. However, you can still keep up your color between salon visits by giving your balayage a little love from some great products. If your balayage color is on the blonde side, use such shade’s shampoo to keep the color lively. If your balayage color is more on the caramel or bronde side, use a color-depositing product in the color type closest to the one applied. It will keep that fresh out of the salon color for weeks to come.
