What Is it?
Let’s talk about how waxing is different from sugaring?
For starters, with sugaring there are no strips, spatulas or warming pots. For anyone concerned about double dipping into wax, it makes this option that much more appealing.
A soft sugar paste is applied directly to the hair and peeled away little by little using a specific (almost rolling and rubbing) pulling technique.
Sugar paste is also applied against the direction of hair growth and then pulled away in the direction of hair growth.
Many people prefer sugaring to traditional waxing because sugar wax is made of natural ingredients and as a result causes less irritation than other forms of hair removal.
Is Sugaring Better than Wax?
Each technique has its own set of pros and cons like most of beauty products.
Amount the results lasts: The results last around the same amount of time of wax.
Price over view: the price point for both services is nearly the same at many places, though it might be harder to find an aesthetician that uses the technique since sugaring isn’t as widely practiced as traditional waxing.
Similar Results for hair: While both sugaring and waxing achieve similar hair removal results, some say sugaring is the gentler (and less painful) option. Unlike wax, the sugaring solution only sticks to unwanted hair—not the surrounding skin.
If you have sensitive skin that’s prone to the irritation and redness waxing can cause, sugaring might be a better option for you.
Plus, the sugaring gel and paste are both water-soluble, so getting rid of any excess product is easy and mess-free.
Can Sugaring Remove Hair Permanently?
Though many people swear by sugaring for keeping excess body hair at bay for extended periods of time, the technique isn’t permanent.
The results typically last up to six weeks before hair begins to grow back.
What To Know Before You Get A Sugaring
There May Still Be Pain
Sugaring versus traditional waxing is more preferable as it has all of the praise it garnered for being a painless hair removal method.
Hard way that that’s not exactly true.
The sugaring hurt way more than any wax I’d ever gotten (full Brazilian wax ). Especially if protocols are not followed.
PREPARATION IS NECESSARY BEFORE WAXING FOR LESS PAIN:
1. Trim Beforehand
The treatment for sugar waxing is different from other waxing. However some of the preparations are the same. This definitely includes trimming your hair beforehand.
- Ideal length to be present at time of wax: your hair should no less than one quarter inch long but also no longer than a half inch.
This is done as pain can be pretty intense on the follicles of my extra long hair and the paste seemed to be tugging on my skin more.
- Keep in mind you don’t want to trim your hair too low either.
The paste needs something to grab onto or you won’t have a good outcome.
If you’re really unsure, ask the salon if they’ll trim your hair beforehand as some places will do it for a small fee.
2. All Numbing Creams Are Not Created Equal
Painful bikini wax: Having experienced some majorly painful bikini waxes in the past, I jumped at the opportunity to have the area numbed before my session. But obviously it costs few extra money!
Bad Experience
But to be honest the numbing spray was not effective at all.
Conclusion
Whether or not your sugaring hurts, and how badly will all also majorly depends on your pain threshold.
