What is sugaring?
Sugaring is a natural hair-removal technique. Unlike conventional waxing techniques, this does not need paper strips. Rather, beauticians use a specific paste consisting of mainly sugar, citric juice, and water. Using their hands, the aesthetician soothes the paste onto the skin in the opposite direction of the hair growth and lets it sit for a few seconds. The paste settles a bit and gets relatively denser with time. Then it is stroked off in the parallel direction of hair growth to keep the hair intact and eradicate the chance of hair breakage. Moreover, since sugaring is relatively a soother process, the hair follicle regenerates slower and softer.
Composition? Let’s find out!
As mentioned earlier as well, Sugaring paste is mainly made out of sugar, juice, and water, nothing else. There are no chemicals, fragrance, coloring added. It can also be seen as hypoallergenic, thus making it a more considerate option for clients with sensitive skin. Conventional wax is warmed to convert it into liquid form and is waxed hot which may lead to potential burns and sometimes even scarring. However, sugaring paste is applied at body temperature. It is also easily removed with water.
Why Prefer this to Traditional Waxing?
The paste does not sticks to skin. It merely binds to the hair follicle; however, heat wax pulls out your skin when removing hair. Hence, it makes sugaring very suitable if one have a sensitive skin, since it causes less itching and nowhere nearly as painful as waxing. One can also clean up after the procedure by easily using water to rinse off, as all of the ingredients in the mix are organic which dissolve in water.
Does Sugaring Hurt?
Honestly, any procedure of practically eradicating hair from its root is going to be hurt a little, so we would be lying if we said sugaring is pain-free. However, for ideal procedure and outcome, it is recommended that hair should be at least 1/8” in length. A good practice is to get sugared about once in a month, or, if it’s you are a first timer then try booking an appointment after 2 weeks from your last shave.
What does the After-care of Sugaring Like?
One should mind exposing their newly sugared area directly to the sun, hot tubs, or any products with fragrance for nearly 2 days post-treatment just to be on the safer side. This is because the skin will be more prone to absorb Ultra-violet rays and potential bacteria during this time. One also have to avoid exfoliating for 48 days after their sugaring session, but from there on, routine exfoliation becomes a regular part of upkeep in order to avoid kinky ingrown hairs. Moreover, sweating could clog the hair follicles, so try stay away from your heavy-duty workout for a day or two just after the appointment.
How often can You Get Sugared?
It is recommended for people to come in every 25 days to get sugared. However, that can depend on your hair type. For clients with dense and darker shade hair, it might be relatively more often to those who have thinner, light hair. If you’re unsure, just talk to your beautician.
