They are strands of hair that fall over the scalp’s front hairline covering the forehead, just above the eyebrows and it can range to numerous lengths. Although, many people have their bangs cut straight, they may also shape them in an arc, leave them a bit ragged or may give them other unorthodox shapes while styling.
They are an excellent way to revamp your look. They are also super affordable, and work with any hair length or style. However, how do you know which bangs are right for you?
What Style of Bangs is Right for Me?
There are so many different types of bangs, for every length, season, and even mood. In general, though, these types can be organized into two main styles: side bangs and front bangs.
Side bangs are shaped and styled to the side of your forehead, usually resembling short layers. Front bangs, on the other hand, are cut across your whole forehead, in either blunt or wispy styles (or somewhere in between).
Choosing the Right Types of Bangs
Whenever taking any decision on having bangs cut into your hair, one should consider the thickness of the hair and what shape the face is.
Round or Oval face shapes are faces that are generally slightly longer than they are wide, and look great with blunt, straight-across bangs or shorter side bangs. These can bring attention to your eyes and cheekbones and highlight your facial proportions.
If you have a heart face shape, you tend to have a wider forehead than jaw. Wispy bangs that bring attention to the lower half of your face are a great option here, as are longer side bangs that sweep across your forehead.
Square face shapes have equal facial width and height, and you might have a more defined jawline. For this face shape, we recommend longer or side-swept bangs to balance your strong jaw and cheekbones and bring attention to your eyes and forehead.
Popular Styles of Bangs
Curtain Bangs
As the name suggest, such bang style is like a curtain that covers your hairline. The center is cut shorter and cascades into longer pieces on the sides. Typically, hair is parted down the center, giving the look a retro vibe. Curtain bangs should not be one length. You want them to blend into your hair so there needs to be a variation between the center and the outer corners.
Side-swept Bangs
These Bangs come from one side of your head and cuts your hairline on a diagonally, giving your hairstyle an asymmetrical look. People who have a perfectly symmetrical face shape may want to consider side-swept bangs because it will give them an unusual edge.
Choppy Bangs
They are an edgy style that looks stunning with relatively thicker hair. Such bangs usually curtains the forehead, but they are not styled as straight as blunt bangs.
The cuts take away some of the heaviness which blunt bang offers, however they are attractive to the eyes in the same way that blunt cuts are. Having thicker hair, choppy bangs can thin your hair out, without losing full coverage of your forehead. This can reduce the heaviness of your hair.
The Starlet
Somewhere in between a front bang and a side bang, these bangs are long, soft, and easily adaptable. Grow them out for a balance side bang, or cut them even shorter for a sweeping fringe bang.
