Olpalex Hair treatment contains eight main products. Each of the eight Olaplex products contains varying amounts of this hero active ingredient, bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate, which repairs broken disulfide bonds in the hair.
A mechanism permanently reenacts the damaged disulphide bonds in one’s hair, which are broken earlier, during the chemical process. If you have over-bleached or maybe have highlighted your hair for length of time, Olaplex treatment allows you to rebuild the strength, structure and gleam of your hair.
OLAPLEX NO. 1 BOND MULTIPLIER
Olaplex No. 1 has the highest concentration of the active ingredient. It is basically plain water, bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate and preservatives.
There are many ways that Olaplex recommend using No. 1: mixed in with bleach to reduce damage, mixed in with gloss, toner or color, or diluted and used as the first step in a standalone treatment.
OLAPLEX NO. 2 BOND PERFECTOR
Olaplex’s educational materials all highlight that Olaplex No. 2 (and 3 as well) are bond builders, not conditioning products – if left in, they won’t make your hair feel soft or nourished (in fact, they make your hair feel stiff and snaggy, as I know now from personal experience).
OLAPLEX NO. 3 HAIR PERFECTOR
This is the take-home treatment for clients to use in between salon visits. Olaplex No.3 visibly strengthens hair and helps to reduce breakage, ensuring your hair is as healthy as can be when you go back to the salon for another color service or regrowth application. One just need to apply Olaplex No.3 to damp, towel dried hair and leave it in for at least 10 minutes – the longer you leave it in, the better. One should aim to use Olaplex No.3 between once to thrice a week, depending on how damaged the condition of hair is.
How Does Olaplex Work?
Simple enough, this is a 3-steps hair treatment, which works at a molecular level to enact the damaged bonds in your hair.
When you colour, bleach, perm your hair or use heat styling tools, the bonds in your hair can split, resulting in dry, damaged hair that is more susceptible to breakage.
Olaplex is used to relink these broken bonds, which strengthens the hair, restores health to your luscious locks and allows hairdressers to make more drastic changes to your hair without worrying your hair will melt or snap off!
How Long Does Olaplex Take To Repair Hair?
Olaplex gets to work on repairing your hair from the first application, with each of the Olaplex products designed to restore your damaged hair by repairing broken bonds.
While Olaplex does restore these broken disulphide bonds permanently, clients should be aware that new damage can still occur to the hair bonds.
Over time, a multitude of factors can affect your hair strength and health, such as:
- How often you use heat styling products and whether you use a heat protecting treatment
- The type of shampoo and conditioner you use – some products are a chemical concoction that will break down the bonds of your hair over time
- Environmental factors such as weather, sun exposure etc.
- How and when you brush your hair – hair is more vulnerable to breakage when wet, so you should avoid brushing wet hair.
- How often you tie your hair up and what you use to tie it up.
