Texturizing – Effects, Benefits And Differences

Our natural hair is our identity, they define us, but it doesn’t mean that we can’t mold them towards its betterment while keeping the curly style they naturally are. A miraculous way of doing that is texturizing. It’s as old of a technique as perming. It’s a process in which the existing curl pattern is devolved into loose curls with totally straightening them.

We can’t say that it doesn’t include any chemicals because it does but it sure is milder than hair relaxing. By texturizing we get a looser curl pattern, which is not fully straight, pertains to our natural hairstyle but it’s easier to handle. A huge pro to this technique is that texturized hair remain healthy and it add volume to your hair simultaneously reducing the frizz and adds shine to your hair.

Process Of Texturizing

Texturizing can permanently alter the structure of your hair and it can be a drastic change but it doesn’t much looks like a change because it only works to some degree. Chemicals involve in this procedure can modify the keratin in your hair to a different structure in a fixed condition. Our hairs are made out of amino acids that cause curliness. When we apply a texturizer to them, the hydrogen bonds in it react with amino acids, the bonds in amino acids are broken, resulting in loose curls.

Types Of Texturizer

There are two different types of texturizer. One of the types contains Lye formula while the other doesn’t. Lye formula is a chemical treatment, which has a direct affect on your scalp too.

People who have S-shaped curls (light type), may witness a drastic change in their hair texture but the ones with Z-shaped curls, we can’t really predict the results in advance. No matter the type of texturizer and hair type, it is always recommended to use herbal conditioners or protein treatments to protect your hair from damage.

Texturized Hair VS. Relaxed Hair

There is no big difference in between a texturizer and a relaxer and that’s what makes them so confusing. Both contain chemicals that can permanently alter your hair texture. But where the difference lies makes them both unique in their own type, the difference is in time factor.

Another factor that makes them different is that a texturizer only has the purpose to loosen the curls to some degree but jot straightening them in anyway whereas; a relaxer is for straightening them completely and wholly. In a relaxer we gave sodium hydroxide, which can alter the pH of your hair and hence your hair becomes straight and sleek as a reaction to it. As the reaction is of high intent, damage is higher in this case too. Texturizer only contains botanical ingredients that are to release the tight curls and makes them easier to comb and it is only applied for 5 to 10 minutes to work. Relaxer is left on your hair for 15 to 20 minutes and after that a neutralizer and a conditioner is used to complete the procedure.
