5 Areas Women Neglect While Applying Sunscreen

Whether you have a tour coming up or just want to flaunt your body on the beach, you need the right skin care products in your kit – the products that work well for your skin. Not only this you must use them wisely especially sunscreen.

Taking the mega bottles of branded sunscreens and applying on all over your body may not keep you safe from the harmful sun radiations. How come? You may be overlooking the equally important areas. So, whenever you are prepping for a sunny spree, you must ensure that you got these areas covered so well to stay safe from the sun.

     1. On your Eyelids

Surprised? I had the same feelings when I found out that areas around our eyes need exceptional protection. Get yourself a quality tinted sunscreen with high SPF. It will give your eyelids prolonged protection from both UVA and UVB rays. I would recommend you to use a natural sunscreen stick for easy application and to avoid irritating your eyes. Sunscreen lotions or creams tend to enter into the eyes while sticks will remain on the areas applied only. It may give you a waxy feel but unlike creams they never get inside your eyes.

     2. Your Lips

You can protect your eyes from the damaging effects of sun by wearing sunglasses if not comfortable with sunscreen. But this is not the case with light-colored lips that lack melanin. It means you have little natural protection from the sun rays. The right amount of melanin is essential for skin protection including your lips. And, if you think that a layer lip gloss will suffice the need but it actually won’t. According to Christine Brown (dermatologist at Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas) “Lip gloss tend to increase the penetration rate of UV rays into your skin.” So, you better apply the sunscreen.

     3. Scalp

The scalp is much vulnerable to damaging sun exposure especially in women with thin hair. So, do not forget to apply sunscreen spray on your scalp area. Spray on your fingertips and then apply it to your scalp area to protect your hair roots. Even thick hair cannot protect your scalp from the harmful impact of sun rays. This makes sunscreen even more important.

     4. Back of Neck

The back of your neck is also prone to sun damage especially if you have shorter hair. Apply sunscreen on this area to protect it from wrinkles and harmful rays of the sun. You can use scarfs to cover the neck but I don’t find it a nice idea to step out in the scorching heat with anything wrapped around the neck; not even a collared shirt unless much needed.

     5. Back of Knees

Now, it’s the primary sweat zone and the most common site for melanoma skin cancer in women. So, do not leave the back of your knees unattended. Keep them clean and apply the sunscreen. Heavy sweating may remove the sunscreen so keep it with you and reapply to combat this problem.

All in all, keep yourself safe from head to toe whenever you are out in the sun by covering the entire body even your nails with quality sunscreen. Also, visit your aestheticians to get professional skin care services for healthy, glowing skin.
